Traditionally, monitoring the temperature of these vital components involved manual checks by technicians, a hazardous, time-consuming, and inconsistent process. To address these critical challenges, customer implemented a cutting-edge remote monitoring system, leveraging the combined strengths of Yudian temperature controllers and Precisol’s RS485 Serial to IoT Edge Gateway.
High-precision Yudian temperature controllers, renowned for their durability and accuracy in demanding industrial settings, were strategically installed near the motors and bearings of key machinery. These controllers were configured to continuously measure the surface temperature of the assets via RTDs. Importantly, the Yudian controllers communicated their data efficiently via an RS485 serial communication interface using the industry-standard Modbus RTU protocol.
To transmit this crucial temperature data from the highly distributed and often isolated points within the plant to the central control room, customer deployed Precisols RS485 Serial to IoT Edge Gateway. These industrial-grade gateways were chosen specifically for their ability to withstand extreme temperatures, dust, and vibrations inherent to a carbon manufacturing plant. Their reliable LTE connectivity provided a robust wireless backbone, circumventing the need for expensive and vulnerable wired network infrastructure in these challenging areas. Each gateway efficiently polled multiple Yudian controllers over RS485, aggregated the temperature readings, and then securely transmitted this vital data over the LTE network to our PreciCloud dashboard.
